When the researchers put overweight, calcium impoverished women on a low-calorie diet, they found that those who took a 1,000 mg calcium supplement daily shed 10 plus pounds more in 4 months than those who continued to get less than 800mg a day. Researchers say calcium may organize the secretion of leptin, a hormone that controls appetite. Adults should get at least a daily dose of 1000-1200mg a day in 3 doses. The body can absorb only an amount of 500mg per dose a day, 3 times a day.

Wheat bran and caffeine will also block absorption. So cut down on coffee. Some food sources that assist absorption are orange juice , sardines and cottage cheese.
